    1 cup softened butter
    1 cup sugar
    1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
    1 egg
    1 cup melted Crisco (I use vegetable oil)
    1 tsp vanilla extract
    3-1/2 cups flour
    1 tsp baking soda
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 cup rolled oats
    1 cup crushed corn flakes
    1/2 cup flaked coconut
    1/2 cup chopped riverbottom pecans (she sometimes would use black walnuts)

    Recipe



    Cream butter, slowly add sugar beating well (she did this with a spoon; me I use an electric beater on medium)
    Add egg and beat well
    Add shortening (oil) and vanilla; mix well
    Combine flour, soda and salt; add to above mixture, mix well
    Stir in oats and all remaining ingredients
    Shape dough into balls (about 1")
    Put on ungreased cookie sheet
    Flatten each ball with a fork
    Now she cooked on wood stove, so her temp is hard to judge. She always got them to point where some of the edges were burnt. What has worked for me is 325° for approximately 15 minutes
    Take out of oven and let cook slightly before removing from cookie sheet
    Makes a bunch
