For cake: Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, then milk and vanilla, Add sifted dry ingredients to butter mixture, one cup at a time. Refrigerate overnight or longer. Prepare filling and refrigerate
For filling: Add two cups of water to apples. Simmer in covered saucepan until apples are soft. Mash apples. While apples are still hot, blend in remaining ingredients. Chill until needed. Cut 12 9-inch circles from waxed paper. Divide the dough into 12 equal parts. Draw a 9-inch circle on a sheet of aluminum foil. Lightly flour foil and roll dough to fit circle. Do this for the rest of the dough. Bake on foil (or cookie sheet) at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes. Cool layers on the circles of waxed paper. When all the layers are completed and cooled, gently stack on a serving plate, spreading filling between layers. (Confectioner's sugar may be dusted on top layer. Dough rolls better if chilled and cake is tastier if served a day or so after stacking. 10 servings.
