    1800 Black Strap Molasses Cake

    3/4 cup shortening
    2/3 cup sugar
    3 eggs
    3/4 cup black strap molasses
    2-3/4 cup flour
    1 tsp baking soda
    1 tsp cinnamon
    1/2 tsp nutmeg
    1/2 tsp cloves
    3/4 tsp salt
    1 cup milk

    Recipe



    Cream shortening and sugar add eggs one at a time, beating after each. Add molasses.
    Sift together rest of dry ingredients.
    Add alternately with milk to creamed mixture. Aunt's note: Pour into 9" greased springform pan. Bake in moderate oven (350º?) for 1-1/4 hours. Cool 5 minutes.
    Remove from pan and cool on cake rack
