    2 1/3 cups all purpose flour
    1 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
    1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
    1 cup butter softened
    1 2/3 cups granulated sugar
    4 eggs
    3/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
    1 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
    1 cup currants
    3/4 cup chopped pecans

    Frosting :
    12 ounces cream cheese, softened
    3/4 cup butter, softened, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
    4 cups confectioners' sugar sifted
    2 tablespoons honey

    Recipe



    Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter and flour 3 eight inch round pans. Combine first 5 ingredients; set aside. In bowl at high speed beat butter until fluffy, 3 minutes. Beat in granulated sugar until fluffy, 3 minutes. Reduce speed to medium; beat in eggs. Beat in applesauce and vanilla until combined; beat in flour mixture. Stir in currants and pecans. Divide batter among pans. Bake 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
    Cool 15 minutes. Remove from pan; cool completely on racks.

    Frosting

    At medium - high speed beat cream cheese until fluffy. Gradually beat in butter. Reduce speed to low; beat in confectioners' sugar and honey. Refrigerate until firm, 30 minutes. Trim cake tops to level; place 1 layer on serving plate. Spread with 2/3 frosting. Top with another layer, 2/3 cup frosting and remaining cake layer. Spread remaining frosting over top and sides of cake; refrigerate until firm. Bring to room temperature before serving.
