    Meringue:
    6 large egg whites, room temperature
    pinch of salt
    2 cups sugar
    1 Tbsp cider vinegar
    2 Tsp vanilla

    Strawberry Sauce:
    1 pint washed, hulled strawberries

    1 quart vanilla ice cream, slightly softened
    Sliced fresh fruit, such as strawberries or kiwis
    Whipped cream
    Mint leaves (optional)

    For Meringue: Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Lightly grease 10 inch springform pan with 3 1/2 inch sides. Using electric mixer, beat whites with salt in large bowl until stiff but not dry, about 6 minutes. Gradually beat in sugar. Fold in vinegar and vanilla. Spread mixture in prepared pan. Bake until light golden and meringue rises to top of pan, about 1 1/2 hours. (Top may crack.) Cool completely in pan on rack; meringue will fall.
    Sauce: Puree 1 pint strawberries in processor or blender. Next, gently press down center of meringue evenly to form well. Spread ice cream in well. Carefully release pan sides. Arrange fruit decoratively atop torte. Sppon whipped cream into pastry bag filled with star tip. Pipe rosettes of cream around edge of torte. Garnish with mint if desired. Serve passing strawberry sauce separately.
