    Victorian Gingerbread Hearts

    2-1/2 cups unsifted flour
    2 tsp cinnamon
    1-1/2 tsp ginger
    1/2 tsp ground cloves
    1/4 tsp salt
    1/2 cup margarine
    1/2 cup dark brown sugar
    1/3 cup dark syrup
    1 lge. egg

    Recipe



    In a large bowl sift together, flour, cinnamon, ginger, cloves & salt.

    Blend together margarine & brown sugar till smooth. Add corn syrup, egg & beat well.Add dry ingredients, about 1/3 at a time, mixing until smooth after each addition. Divide the dough in two, wrap in plastic & chill dough for at least 1 hour.

    Roll out cookie dough on a lightly flour surface to 1/4" thickness. Using heart shaped cookie cutter, cut out shapes. Place hearts on cookie sheet. Decorate as desired. Bake at 350F for 15-20 minutes until golden. Remove & place on wire racks till cool. Store in covered container.
