    1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
    2/3 cup sugar
    1 egg
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    2 cups all-purpose flour, divided
    1/2 cup milk
    1/3 cup crushed peppermint candy or candy canes
    Confectioners’ sugar

    Recipe



    Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease and flour a 9- by 13-inch baking pan.
    Cream butter and sugar until light colored and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Add 1 cup flour, mix well, then add milk. Incorporate remaining cup of flour. Beat well for 2 to 3 minutes.
    Stir in crushed peppermint and pour into prepared pan. Bake in center of oven 20 to 25 minutes.
    Cool completely, then sprinkle with confectioners’ sugar. Cut into bars. Makes about 3 dozen.
