Stuffed Date Cookies

1 pound pitted dates
1 package (3 ounces) pecan or walnut halves
1/4 cup shortening
3/4 cup medium brown sugar
1 egg
1-1/4 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup sour cream
1 recipe Golden Frosting
GOLDEN FROSTING:
1/2 cup butter or margarine
3 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
3/4 teaspoon vanilla
3 tablespoons water, approximately
Recipe
Stuff dates with nuts. Set aside. Cream shortening and sugar until light. Beat in egg.
Sift dry ingredients; add alternately with sour cream to creamed mixture. Stir in dates. Drop onto greased cookie sheet, one date per cookie. Bake at 400 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Cool and frost with Golden Frosting. Makes 5-1/2 dozen cookies.
GOLDEN FROSTING:
Lightly brown butter or margarine; remove from heat. Gradually beat in confectioners' sugar and vanilla. Slowly add enough water until of spreading consistency.
Yield: 5-1/2 dozen.
