Recipe Introduction
Cross red velvet cake with brownies and you get Red Devil Brownies (named after my dog, who is truly a red devil). Unlike most brownie recipes, this creation has a more cake-like texture, and unlike most cake recipes, this recipe calls for an 8x8 square brownie pan. It's a bright and festive addition for any party, and you can dress it up even more with icing.
List of Ingredients
1 1/2 cups flour
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup maple syrup
1/2 cup pureed prunes (hint: use baby food)
2 Tbsp oil
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 oz red food coloring
Recipe
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease an 8x8 square brownie pan and set aside.
Sift the dry ingredients in a large bowl.
Combine the remaining wet ingredients in a large mixing cup (or small bowl).
Whisk thoroughly.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry, and mix just enough to combine all ingredients.
Pour the batter into the brownie pan and bake for 25-30 minutes. Prick the center of the brownies with a fork or toothpick to test when it is done.
Allow to cool before slicing.
