    List of Ingredients

    Dough:
Use any 1 lb lean homemade bread dough recipe ( such as my pizza dough etc. Use the back Home link to get to my primers and recipes )
Or, 1 lb loaf of frozen bread dough thawed
    Filling:
    oil to fry
    1 large onion sliced
1 small to medium head of green cabbage thinly hand sliced
dill weed to taste- dry or fresh
    salt and pepper to taste
    Topping :
oil, poppyseeds, coarse salt, garlic powder

Prepare bread dough, let it rise. Meanwhile:
In a heavy duty pot, heat about 1/4 cup of oil and saute onion till wilted . Add cabbage and cook and stir over medium heat until onion and cabbage are quite tender ( about 20 to 30 minutes ). Season with crushed garlic ( optional ), dill, salt and pepper. Remove from heat to let mixture cool to room temperature. Punch down dough and roll dough out into a thin rectangle ( at least 10 x 14 inches or so.) Place cooled vegetable mixture on one half of the dough, 1 inch from the borders. Fold up other half of dough to cover filling ( like a turnover ) and fold edges under and pinch shut. Carefully transfer to a large baking sheet. Gently press top of dough into cabbage filling. Thinly slash top of dough with a sharp knife in several places. Brush dough with oil, sprinkle on poppy seeds, coarse salt and pepper and garlic powder. Bake in a 400F oven until browned and done about 30 minutes. Let cool to warm and then slice with a sharp serated knife.
Note: bread may also be filled with cooked mashed potatoes and cheese or similar filling one may use for perogies etc.
