    Gyros Meatballs with Cucumber Sauce

    1 lb ground chuck
    2--3 Tbsp milk
    ½ Tbsp dried, minced onion
    ½ Tbsp garlic powder
    ¼ tsp pepper
    2 slices white bread (½" cubes)
    1 egg
    1 Tbsp dried, ground spearmint leaves
    ¼ tsp oregano
    ¼ tsp salt

    Recipe



    Mix bread cubes with milk; add to meat and remainder of ingredients.

    Let stand for one (1) hour. Form into small meatballs and fry in own fat (don't add oil); brown on all sides. Serve hot with sauce (recipe follows).

    Gyros Meatball Sauce

    (Note: Make the sauce 24 hours ahead of meatballs.)

    8-oz sour cream
    ¼ cup cucumber, finely chopped
    1/8 tsp white pepper
    1/8 tsp garlic powder (optional)
    ¼ cup onion, finely chopped
    ½ tsp mint
    1/8 tsp salt

    Combine all sauce ingredients; mix well. Serve in warm pita bread, or over rice or noodles.

    This sauce makes a good dressing by adding a little milk.
