    Makes 8 frankfurters

    8 all-beef frankfurters, such as Applegate Farms
    3 cups hearty ale
    ¼ cup yellow mustard
    2 large onions, cut into ½-ionch rounds, skewered to lay flat
    2 whole sour pickles, chopped
    8 hot dog buns

    Pierce each frank in several places with a toothpick and marinate in 2 ¼ cups ale, refrigerate overnight or up to 24 hours. Heat grill to medium. Combine the mustard and remaining ¼ cup ale in a small bowl; set aside. Grill the skewered onions until browned-about 8 minutes per side. Place the franks on the grill until crisp-8-10 minutes. Place the franks on buns, top each with about 2 teaspoons chopped pickles and some of the grilled onions and drizzle with mustard sauce. Serve immediately
