    1/4 cup butter
    1/4 cup all-purpose flour
    3 cups milk
    1 cup tomato juice (high quality)
    1 teaspoon dried basil
    1 teaspoon Worcestershire
    1 cup tomatoes, seeded and finely chopped
    1/2 cup quick-cooking rice

    Recipe



    Melt butter in a 2-quart saucepan. Stir in flour until blended. Gradually stir in milk, tomato juice, basil, and Worcestershire. Cover and bring to a boil. Reduce heat. Add tomatoes and rice. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes, stiring occasionally. Serve hot.

    Yields 5-6 servings.
