    List of Ingredients

    Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees

    Cookie Dough:
    3/4 c. sugar
    3/4 c. shortening or butter
    3 eggs
    3 c. flour
    3 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. flavoring (lemon, vanilla, or any flavor you prefer)

    Glaze:
    1 1/2 c. powdered (confectionery) sugar
    1 tbsp. soft butter
    2-3 tbsp. water

    Recipe

Mix together sugar and eggs until double in volume. Add shortening or softened butter and mix until fluffy. Add flour, baking powder, and flavor. Mix together until mixture is semi-firm. Take a piece of dough about the size of a walnut and roll out into a rope that's about 4 in. in length, and 1/2 in. in diameter. Fold in half, twist, and then place on baking sheet. Bake for 8-9 minutes. Cookie will be a light golden color. Take out, cool for just a minute, and dip in the glaze. You can sprinkle with sugar candy, coconut, nuts, chocolate, etc., or just leave plain.

    Glaze:
Mix all ingredients together. Glaze should be of semi-thin consistency.

As a variation, you can make a chocolate dough:
    Add 1/2 c. cocoa powder
and 1/4 c. sugar to the base.

You can braid the white and the dark together to make a vanilla and chocolate combination.
