    Recipe Introduction

This is an adaptation from the CABBAGE PATCH COOKBOOK. I thought pounding flour into the meat was too much trouble . You can still do it if you think it improves the dish . I love this on cold winter nights .

    List of Ingredients

    1 1/2 lbs. round steak
    1/3rd cup flour
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon pepper
4 tablespoons oil or bacon grease
    1 large onion, chopped
1 cup beef broth or hot water
1 14oz. can chopped tomatoes or tomato sauce
1 teaspoon brown or white sugar

    Recipe

Trim fat off steak and cut in serving size pieces . Mix flour , salt and pepper in a pie pan and dredge meat. Reserve leftover flour . Sear meat in a nonstick skillet (about 2 min. on each side ). Remove meat and heat oil or bacon grease . Saute onions until transparent and add the remaining flour . Add broth or hot water and cook on medium heat until bubbly ( a few minutes ) .Add tomatoes or sauce and sugar . Place steak in a lidded 2-3 inch deep ovenproof casserole and top with tomato mixture . Bake in 300 oven for 2hrs. or until meat is tender . Serve with noodles or mashed potatoes and salad or vegetables .
