- 8 cups plain popped popcorn (unpopped kernels discarded)
- 1 cup peanuts
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, cut into chunks
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
Instructions
- Place the popped popcorn and peanuts in the grocery bag
- In a microwave-safe large bowl, combine the butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, and salt. Microwave for 2 minutes; stir then microwave for 2 more minutes.
- Add the baking soda, stirring until thickened. Mixture will turn light in color and look like taffy. Pour mixture over the popcorn and peanuts in the bag; close bag and shake well.
- Pour the popcorn mixture into the bowl and microwave for 1-1/2 minutes; stir then microwave for 1-1/2 more minutes. Pour into the paper bag and shake well.
- Repeat Step 4 then spread the popcorn mixture onto baking sheets and allow to cool completely. Serve, or store in an airtight container until ready to serve.
