Blooming Party Bread
1 pound Monterey Jack cheese slices
1 1/2 pound loaf sourdough bread, (long + Not sliced)
1/2 cup melted butter, (1 stick)
2 teaspoons poppy seeds
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
3 thinly sliced green onions, (scallions)
cooking spray
Make one slice into the top of the loaf, 2/3's deep,
cutting the length of the loaf of bread.
Then make cuts 1 inch apart, 2/3's deep, to create the
"blooming bread" effect.
Spray a baking sheet with the cooking spray.
Place the cut loaf on the baking sheet.
Mix the butter, poppy seed, and garlic powder together in a
bowl. Pour evenly over bread AND mostly into cuts.
Sprinkle 1/2 of the onion between the slices.
Insert the cheese slices into the cuts, in 1 direction.
Then tear the remaining pieces so you can insert more cheese
in the spaces going in the other direction.
Sprinkle the remaining onion on top.
Place in the oven on broil until the cheese has melted and the
loaf is turning brown and bubbly.
Serve immediately.
