    sweet - Banana Nut Bread

    1/2 cup oleo or shortening
    1 cup sugar
    2 eggs
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    2 cups plain flour
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    3-4 small ripe bananas, , mashed
    4 teaspoons buttermilk
    1/2 teaspoon vanilla flavoring
    1 cup chopped pecan

    Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Well grease and flour
    bread loaf pan(s)>
    Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs one at a time
    and beat.
    Sift flour, baking powder, soda and salt together.
    Add bananas and buttermilk to creamed mixture,
    then add flour.
    Add the vanilla and the nuts, stir well.
    Bake for 1 hour or until tester comes out clean. Watch
    to make sure it doesn't get too brown.
    Makes 2 small loaves or 16 servngs.

    A not-too-sweet nut bread. Delicious with softened
    cream cheese, and with a cup of hot chocolate. My
    mother loved to make these loaves and give to friends
    at Christmas.
