    Source of Recipe

    Recipe Introduction

A blend of honey and chocolate makes this cake rich, tender-moist, flavorful, and fine-textured. It is very much like a chocolate cake.

    List of Ingredients

    scratch - Honey Cake

    3 ounces unsweetened chocolate
    2/3 c. honey
    1 3/4 c. sifted cake flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. butter
    2/3 c. sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 eggs
2/3 c. sour milk or buttermilk

Preheat oven to 350. Butter an 9x9x2" baking pan.
Melt the chocolate in a saucepan.
Add the honey, and heat slightly to liquefy it and mix until it is well blended. Let cool to lukewarm.
Sift the flour with the baking soda, baking powder, and salt, Twice. Set aside.
Beat the butter and sugar together until light and creamy.
Stir in the vanilla; then add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.
Add the chocolate/honey mixture and blend well.
Add the flour alternately with the milk, a little at a time until well mixed.
Pour the batter into the baking pan and bake for 20 minutes.
Lower the temperature to 325, to prevent scorching, and bake another 20 minutes, or until a tester comes out clean.
