    List of Ingredients

    4 quarts cucumbers
    7 c. white sugar
    2 c. white vinegar, (1 pint)
    1/2 tsp. oil of cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. oil of cloves
    1 16oz. jar maraschino cherries

    Recipe

    Pare, seed and cube the cucumbers.
    Place in a non porous pot and cover with boiling water.
    Cook until nearly tender, then drain.
    Use a saucepan to make a syrup with the sugar, vinegar, cinnamon, and cloves.
    Bring to boil; then pour over the cucumbers and let stand overnight.
    Drain the syrup.
    Then reheat the syrup, bringing to a boil and let boil a few seconds.
    Pour over the cucumbers again, and then let stand until the next morning.
    Bring the syrup and cucumbers to a boil.
    Add the juice from the cherries and stir.
    Add a cherry or 2 to each jar just before canning. Do not boil, as they will lose their color.
    Pack hot, into 6 clean pints.

    When canning set jars in hot water to prevent breaking.
