    Crockpot - Swiss Steak #2

    List of Ingredients

    1 tablespoon vegetable oil
    2 pounds round steak, cut into 8 pieces
    2 medium finely chopped onions
    1/4 cup thinly sliced carrots
    1/4 cup thinly sliced celery
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
    2 tablespoons flour
    1, 28 ounce can plum tomatoes,
    ...drain juice and save 1/2 cup, then chop
    1 tablespoon Worchestershire sauce
    1 bay leaf

    Recipe

    Heat the oil in a frying pan and brown the meat on the
    stovetop, over a medium/high heat, turning if necessary.
    Place meat into the bottom of crockpot/slow cooker.

    to slow cooker stoneware.

    Reduce the heat to a medium/low.
    Add the onion, carrots, celery, salt and pepper.
    Cover and cook until the vegetables are softened, about
    8 minutes.
    Sprinkle with the flour. Stir and cook for 1 minute.
    Add the tomatoes, the juice and the Worcestershire sauce.
    Bring to a boil, while stirring, until slightly thickened.
    Add the bay leaf.
    Pour on top of the steak in the crockpot.
    Cover and cook on low heat for 8 to 10 hours, or on high
    heat for 4 to 5 hours, until the meat is tender.
    Remove the bay leaf.
    Makes 8 servings.
