    Dutch - Funnel Cake

    Source of Recipe

    debbie's country cookin

    Recipe Introduction

This is served most often with powdered sugar on top. You may also use molasses, maple syrup, or fruit preserves.

    List of Ingredients

    3 beaten eggs
    2 cups milk
    1/4 cup sugar
    3 - 4 cups flour
    2 teaspoons baking powder
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    powdered sugar or other toppings
    vegetable oil for frying
1 cup funnel with 1/2 inch bottom opening

    Recipe

Heat the oil in a fryer to 375 degrees.
Stir together the eggs, sugar and milk.
Sift 2 cups of the flour, salt, and baking powder together.
Add to the milk, sugar, and egg mixture.
Blend together, and add more flour until the batter is
    smooth and not too thick.
Place your finger on the bottom of the funnel opening.
Add about a cup of batter.
Carefully, remove your finger and allow the batter to pour
into the oil. Careful, the oil may splash.
Slowly swirl the batter in circles, or criss cross back and forth
to make a 7 or 8 inch round cake.
Check with tongs, to see when the bottom turns golden brown.
Turn over and cook the other side until golden brown.
Remove with the tongs to a paper towel to drain.
Serve hot, with topping of choice.
