    LowFat - Roasted Pepper Sauce

    A healthy recipe from the New American Heart Association Cookbook. Low in fat and calories.

    List of Ingredients

    Roasted Pepper Sauce

    non stick cooking spray
    1 red bell pepper
    2 tbsp. sesame seeds
    1 15oz. can garbanzo beans
    1/4 c. water
    2 tbsp. fresh lime juice
    1 clove minced garlic, or to taste
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. ground black pepper

    Preheat broiler.
    Coat a baking pan with the non stick cooking spray.
    Broil the pepper 3 - 4" from the heat source for 2 - 3 minutes per side, or until blistered and charred.
    Place the pepper in a (preferrably metal) bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Allow pepper to sweat 5 - 15 minutes.
    Cut pepper in half. Remove the skin, stem and seeds.
    Blot dry; then dice into smaller pieces.
    Toast the sesame seeds in a hot dry skillet over a medium/high heat, stirring frequently, until the seeds turn golden.
    Place the seeds in a blender/food processor and blend for approximately 30 seconds.
    Add the pepper, beans, water, lime juice, garlic, salt and pepper; and blend until smooth.
    Serve or seal in an airtight container, in the refriger for up to 5 days.
    Makes 16 servings.
