    milk

    for the filling:
    1 cup crushed corn flakes
8 cups sliced tart baking apples, (8 - 10 apples)
1 cup + 2 tablespoons white granulated sugar, divided
    1 1/2 teaspoons + 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, divided
    1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
the reserved egg white from above

    for the glaze:
    1 cup powdered confectioners sugar
    1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    1 - 2 tablespoons milk

Preheat the oven to 350. Need a 15x10 inch jelly roll pan.
    for the pastry:
In a medium mixing bowl, stir together the flour and salt.
Cut small pieces of the butter into the dry ingredients until a crumbly mixture.
Use the yolk from the separated egg and add enough milk to the yolk to equal 2/3 cup of liquid.
Add to the pastry mixture and stir into the mixture until the dough forms a ball.
Divide the pastry dough in half.
On a lightly floured surface, roll 1/2 of the dough into a 15x10 inch rectangle.
Place the pastry in the bottom of the pan.

    for the filling:
Sprinkle the pastry crust with the corn flakes.
Place an even layer of the sliced apples on top of the flakes.
Combine the 1 cup sugar, the 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon, and nutmeg in a small bowl.
    Sprinkle evenly over the apples.
Roll out the other remaining half of the pastry dough into a 15 1/2x10 1/2 inch rectangle and place over top of the sugar/apples mixture.
Beat the reserved egg white until foamy and then brush over the top of the pastry.
Combine the 2 tablespoons sugar and the 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon in a small bowl. Sprinkle over the brushed pastry.
Bake for 45 - 60 minutes or until lightly browned.
Remove to cool just slightly before applying the glaze.

    for the glaze:
Combine the confectioners sugar, vanilla, and enough milk for drizzling consistency in a small bowl.
    Drizzle over the warm bars.
    Slice to serve.
    Makes 3 dozen.
