    donuts - Puffs, plain, fried

    2 cups sifted flour
    1/4 cup granulated white sugar
    3 teaspoons baking powder
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    1/4 cup Wesson oil
    3/4 cup milk
    1 beaten egg

Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and nutmeg together.
Add oil, milk and egg to the dry mix and stir with fork until mixed.
Heat enough oil (either wesson or crisco) for deep frying.
Drop batter by TEASPOONFUL into deep oil and fry until golden
brown which could be a few minutes.
(Test middle of donut if cooked which determines if oil is hot
enough or if cooked long enogh. Large puffs will not cook thru.)
Roll warm puffs in sugar and serve.
    Makes 2 1/2 dozen puffs.
