    Recipe Introduction

her comments:I have been wanting to send in this recipe for a long
time. I got this recipe from a lady who was in her
90's and that was over 20 years ago. This was a recipe
that she used during the war...when times were tough!

It is a spiced cake and
GOOD warm. This lady was an old Wyoming Rancher's
wife...and gave me Her Mother's cook book from a 1900
Chicago Newspaper (can't remember the name) I have
never seen a cook book like it...the recipes are for
365 days...3 meals a day. And the recipes are done in
paragraph form written like a letter with the
ingredients in the sentences...I love it!

    List of Ingredients

    Eggless Butterless Milkless Cake

Cook 1 cup of raisins with enough water to make 1
cup of juice. (I usually put in 1 1/2 cups water in
    the pan)

Add: 1 Tablespoon shortening...Crisco, or oil
Heat till the raisins are soft

    In a mixing bowl add:
    1 cup of sugar
    2 cups of flour
    1 tsp. of baking soda
    pinch of salt
    1 tsp cinnamon
    1 tsp. allspice
    1/2 tsp. ground cloves
    1 tsp. nutmeg

Add raisins to this mixture Now this will be very
thick...almost like wall-paper paste Put in a greased
and floured pan 9X9" pan and bake slowly 1 hour 325o
    Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
