    List of Ingredients




    1 c. dark brown sugar
    1 1/4 c. + 2 tsp. water
    1/3 c. vegetable shortening
    2 c. raisins
    1/2 tsp. nutmeg
    2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. ground cloves
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. baking soda
    2 c. sifted flour
    1 tsp. baking powder

    Recipe



    Use a saucepan to mix the sugar, 1 1 /4 c. of the water, shortening, raisins, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves together.
    Bring to a boil and boil for 3 minutes. Let cool.
    Preheat oven to 325. Grease and flour an 8x8x2" baking pan.
    Dissolve the salt and baking soda in the 2 tsp. of water and add to the sugar mixture.
    Mix the flour with the baking powder; then blend into the sugar mixture.
    Pour into the baking pan and bake for 50 minutes.
    This cake is good with or without frosting.
