    1/2 cup chopped bacon
    1/2 cup finely chopped onion
    1/2 cup minced celery
    1/2 cup apple juice, or
    ...1/3 cup brown sugar
    1/2 cup tomato puree or ketchup
    1 cup beef broth or gravy

    Fry bacon until 1/2 crisp.
    Add onions and celery. Saute until almost clear.
    Stir in remaining ingredients and simmer over a
    low/medium heat to desired thickness.
