    Homemade Pedialyte

    1/2 cup dry infant rice cereal
    2 cupa water
    1/4 teaspoon salt

    You can add a partial packet of presweetened Kool-Aid or a little sugar. Do not use honey, infants cannot tolerate it.

    Pedialyte Substitute

    1/2 teaspoon table salt
    1/4 teaspoon salt substitute
    1/2 level teaspoon baking soda
    2 tablespoons granulated white sugar

    Mix all in 1 liter of boiled water.
    Feed 1 liter daily
    to supplement the regular nutrition
    of a baby 6 months or older with severe diarrhea.

    Use instead of juice or milk for diarrhea, vomiting, and fever.
    Children under 3 months old should go directly to the doctor
    if they have any of these symptoms.

    Electrolyte Drink, (similar to Pedialyte)

    4 cups water
    1/2 level teaspoon baking soda
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    3 tablespoons white granulated sugar
    1/2 packet sugar free soft drink mix, optional
    ...(for flavoring, or just add a couple drops of
    ...vanilla flavoring)


    Mix all until dissolved.
    Store in the refrigerator.
    Throw away any remaining after 1 week.
    You can also freeze some in ice cubes to use later,
    as ice pops, or to keep drinks cold.
