List of Ingredients
Round loaf sour dough bread
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1 c. sour cream
2 c. grated medium cheddar
1 lb. bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled
1/3 c. chopped onions
1/3 c. chopped red bell pepper
1 tsp. worcestershire sauce
Recipe
Carefully cut top of bread and hollow out. Reserve inside pieces for dipping.
Beat cream cheese until smooth. Add sour cream and beat until creamy. Add rest of ingredients. Pour into hollowed out bread and replace top piece of bread. Wrap in foil and bake at 350°F for 1 and 1/2 hours, or until thoroughly heated.
Use the reserved bread pieces, crackers, pita bread, etc. for dipping.
I have been making this for potluck occasions for a couple of years now, from back when September Morn posted it before she was Recipefreak. This is delicious-creamy, cheesy, hot out of the oven, just drippy delicious. I usually leave the bell pepper out of it when I'm making it for family since most of them prefer it without, but if you add it, it adds a pretty color to the dip. Serving it in the baked bread bowl is, of course, an impressive presentation. I usually serve butter crackers to dip with it, but tearing up pieces of toasted, chunky bread, as she suggests, works too. There is another dip on the board called Mississippi Sin that uses ham, and it's good too, but this is our favorite.
Thanks for a wonderful recipe, Recipefreak.
