Grandmother Baker's Pound Cake

2 c. flour
1 c. shortening
1 2/3 c. sugar
5 eggs
1 t. vanilla OR 1 t. vanilla and 1 t. orange extractRecipe
Sift and measure flour. Sift again 5 times. Cream shortening. Add sugar gradually to shortening. Beat until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time beating thoroughly after each addition (the longer the better). Add vanilla or vanilla/orange extracts and blend well. Now add the flour, but do not beat it. FOLD it in! Put into greased angel food cake (tube) pan. Bake at 225 degrees for 50 minutes, then increase heat to 325 for 10 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes before turning out on rack.
