    List of Ingredients

    Vanilla Dough:
    5 tablespoons unsalted butter
    2 large eggs
1 box French Vanilla cake mix

    Chocolate Dough:
    5 tablespoons unsalted butter
    2 large eggs
1 box Devil's Food Cake mix

    Candied cherries, cut in half

    Recipe

Vanilla dough: Place the butter in a glass mixing bowl and melt in the microwave oven for about 30 seconds. Don't let it "fry" or get too hot. Remove and beat in the eggs. Dump in the vanilla cake mix and blend thoroughly. The dough will be very stiff. Repeat the steps for the chocolate dough. Scoop out the dough with a cookie scoop onto waxed paper, making 24 balls of each flavor. Cut the balls in half. Put together a vanilla and chocolate half and roll in your hands to make a ball that is half vanilla and half chocolate. Press half of a cherry into the center of each, almost burying the cherry piece. Leave just a bit showing.

Place on a cookie sheet covered with parchment paper or Silpat and space 2 inches apart.

Bake at 350° until the edges just barely begin to brown. Remove from the oven and cool on the pan for 3 minutes. Remove to racks to cool completely.

These are so pretty with the vanilla and chocolate swirled together and a piece of cherry "winking" out of the center. They look like you bought them at the bakery.

    Makes 48 three inch cookies.

Posted by: gaudrey_GA: NOTE: I have cut the scoops of dough into 4ths and made smaller cookies. If you decide to do this, still use half a cherry in the center. A smaller piece looks skimpy. You can also use half red and half green cherries for Christmas colors. You can use a pecan half instead of the cherry, if desired. These are so easy to make and are very impressive looking. They taste good too. Great for beginning cooks.
