    Recipe Introduction


    This recipe was purchased by a hotel customer for $100. It was given to me by the Riley family.


    List of Ingredients


    • 2 cups sugar
    • 1 cup butter
    • 3 eggs
    • 6 oz. melted unsweetened baking chocolate squares
    • 2 tsp. baking powder
    • 2 cups cake flour
    • 1 1/2 cups milk
    • 2 cups chopped black walnuts
    • vanilla
    • salt
    • 2/3 lb. powder sugar
    • 1 T lemon juice


    Instructions


    1. Mix 2 cups sugar, 1/2 cup butter, 2 beaten eggs, 4 oz. melted chocolate, baking powder, cake flour, milk, 1 cup chopped walnuts, and 2 tsp. vanilla.
    2. Pour into 2 greased round layer pans.
    3. Bake @ 350 degrees until done. Cool.
    4. For frosting, melt 1/2 butter and 2 oz. chocolate. Cool slightly.
    5. Add 1/4 tsp. salt, 1 beaten egg. powdered sugar, 1 T vanilla, lemon juice & 1 cup chopped nuts.
    6. Spread between layers, top and sides of cake.


    Final Comments


    I like black walnuts best in this cake, but if they are not available, you can use English walnuts. This was one of the cakes Sue requested for her birthday.
