Morris Library Sweet & Sour Cabbage

List of Ingredients
- 8 cups shredded cabbage
- 6 slices bacon, cut into 1" pieces
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 2 Tbl brown sugar
- 2 Tbl flour
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/3 cup white vinegar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cook cabbage in boiling, salted water until it is tender, about seven minutes. Drain well.
- Meanwhile, cook bacon in a skillet until bacon is crisp. Remove bacon from skillet.
- Add onion to bacon drippings and cook until soft.
- Blend in brown sugar and flour; add water and vinegar and cook, stirring constantly until mixture is thickened.
- Add sauce and bacon to drained cabbage. Heat through and serve.
Final Comments
Serves 6 as a side dish or more if the cooked noodles were added. The addition of some cooked and sliced Polish or country link sausage makes this a nice supper main dish.
