    Grandma's Pecan Crumb Cake

    Recipe Introduction

    This recipe has been passed down from Merideth's Great Great Grandma Holmes.

    List of Ingredients

    2 c brown sugar
    1 1/2 c flour
    1/ 8 tsp salt
    2/3 c shortening
    2 eggs
    1/2 tsp baking soda
    2 tsp baking powder
    1/2 tsp nutmeg
    1/2 tsp cinnamon
    1 c sweet or sour milk
    pecans

    Recipe

    Mix the first four ingredients together by hand. Reserve 1/2 cup (firmly packed) of the mixture and set aside. Mix eggs into the first mixture, blending well. Add the dry ingredients alternately with the milk and mix well. Pour mixture into a 9 x 13 inch greased and floured cake pan. Sprinkle reserved 1/2 cup of first mixture over the cake to form icing. Sprinkle pecans over top. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
