    My Gyros

    List of Ingredients

1 lb. meat of your choice (I use veal or pork though lamb would be classic for gyros)
1 each red and green bell pepper
    1 tbsp. gyros seasoning
2 tsp. onion powder or one large onion
16 oz.plain yoghurt (low fat is not so good)
4 tsp. arrow root or cornstarch
    1/2 cup water
    1 tbsp. olive oil

    Recipe

This is so tasty, easy, quick and low calorie if you use fillet and a nonstick pan.You can either marinate the meat with the oil and seasoning up to one day ahead or season right in the pan...

    Directions:
Cut meat in thin stripes (if using pork fillet halve the fillet before cutting in stripes so it is quite thin).
Slice bell peppers and onion if using.Heat oil over high heat in a nonstick skillet.Add meat and seasoning.
Beat yoghurt with water and arrow root and onion powder. When meat is done (after 3 or 4 minutes) remove it from skillet, turn heat to medium/low and add bell peppers.Add some water if necessary, cover and let cook for 6 minutes or so.Put peppers at the side of the pan and add yoghurt mix.Bring to a boil but be sure to stir so yoghurt doesn't "flake".Cook on low heat for 3-5 minutes, then turn heat off and add meat.Let sit about 4 minutes and serve with rice or french fries (or with potatoes but we eat even chinese stir fry with potatoes...)
