    Recipe Introduction

From the cookbook "Mama Never Cooked Like This" by Susan Mendelson
    Layer One:

    1/2 cup butter
    1/4 cup sugar
    1 egg
    1 tsp vanilla
    1 tbsp cocoa

Mix the above together and set over boiling water, Stir until slighly thickened. Then add:

    2 cups Graham Cracker crumbs
    1 cup coconut
    1/2 cup chopped nuts

Press down in square greased 9" baking pan

    Layer two:

    1/4 cup butter
    3 tbsp milk
    2 cups icing sugar
    2 tbsp custard powder

Mix together and spread over layer one, refrigerate for 15 minutes [ I seem to remember using egg yolks in this and cooking it and not custard powder, we made this in home economics in high school, it is a Canadian
standard along with learning to make white sauce and baking powder biscuits]

    Layer Three:

    4 oz semi-sweet chocolate
    1 tbsp butter

Melt chocolate over hot water, Do not allow water to boil. Very slowly and very gently, stir in butter until it has just blended. Spread over Layer Two.

    Refrigerate, then cut into squares.
