    Turkey-In-A-Bag

[from "Not Martha" newsletter]            Our family recipe, "Turkey in a Bag," makes the most perfect moist turkey you've ever had, and it's remarkably easy -- perfect for my first turkey-cooking as a married woman.

    List of Ingredients

    • TURKEY (up to 20 lbs. Cooking time not dependent on weight of turkey)
    • Plain brown shopping bag (preferably NOT made from recycled goods)
    • Jar of Crisco (OR-4 sticks of butter, melted)
    • Cooking rack
    • Turkey pan
    • 450º oven

    Instructions

    1. Using the Crisco™, grease both sides of bag, inside and out. (OR-place melted butter inside of bag, swish about untill throughly soaked thru)
    2. Stuff and Truss Turkey
    3. Place prepared Turkey inside bag
    4. Staple bag securely shut
    5. Position Turkey on cooking rack, placed in pan
    6. Quickly place turkey inside oven so you don't lose heat. Be sure top of bag doesn't touch top oven coils. (fire hazard!)
    7. Cook at 450 degrees for ninety minutes.
    8. Turn temperature DOWN to 350º degrees, continue to cook for ninety minutes more.
    9. DO NOT open oven during cooking!

    Final Comments

When directions are followed, this recipe is touted as FOOLPROOF!
