    AUNT BEATY'S RYE BREAD

    Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
    -------- ------------ --------------------------------
    2 c rye flour
    1 env dry yeast
    1 1/4 c warm water
    1/4 c brown sugar
    2 tsp melted shortening
    3 tsp salt -- scant teaspoon
    2 c white flour
    1 tsp ground caraway

    In a large bowl, mix rye flour, yeast, and water. Let stand overnight or the equivalent.

    In morning add remaining ingredients. Knead until smooth. Divide in two. Cover and let rise until doubled. Bake 30 minutes at 325 degrees.
