    2 1/4 c. sifted flour
    3 tsp. baking powder
    1/8 tsp. nutmeg
    1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. salt
    2 Tbsp. Crisco
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 egg, unbeaten
    1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
    1/2 c. milk
    Crisco for deep frying
    confectioners or granulated
    sugar

    Recipe



    Sift together baking powder, spices and salt into a
    mixing bowl. Blend together 2 tablespoons Crisco,
    sugar, eggs,
    milk and vanilla. Add to dry ingredients and mix
    well, chill.
    Roll on lightly floured board 1/2-inch thick. Cut with
    a
    2-inch cutter. Fry in Crisco heated to 365 degrees
    until delicately
    brown. Turn and fry on other side. Drain on
    absorbent paper,
    roll in confectioners or granulated sugar, as desired.
    Makes
    18 doughnuts.
    To Glamourize: Roll in sugar or frost with 2/3 cup
    confectioners sugar, 2 tablespoons cocoa and 2
    tablespoons milk
    all blended together.
