    1/2 cup butter or margarine
    3/4 cup sugar
    1 egg
    1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
    1 1/2 tsp baking powder
    1/2 tsp salt
    1/2 tsp vanilla
    1 square ( 1 oz) unsweetened chocolate, melted

    Recipe



    Cream butter. Add sugar and continue creaming. Add egg and beat until light and fluffy.

    Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.

    Add to creamed butter mixture.

    Add vanilla and blend well.

    Divide dough into two equal parts.

    Melt chocolate square in a double boiler.

    Mix chocolate with one half of the dough, until blended. Refrigerate until easy to handle.

    Roll out both doughs into equal sized rectangles, about 1/8 inch thick each.

    Place chocolate dough on top of vanilla . Refrigerate briefly.

    Roll the layers like a jelly roll, 1 1/2 inch wide.

    Wrap the whole roll in waxed paper or plastic wrap. Chill overnight until very firm.

    Slice 1/4 inch thick. Place on greased cookie sheet.

    Bake at 375 for 8 minutes.
