    Crockpot Split Pea Soup

    Source of Recipe

    Friends Around the Kitchen Table

    List of Ingredients

4 quarts water and/or stock (I use a combo or defatted pork/ham stock & water)
1 pound dried green split peans
chopped carrots (I use about 2 cups)
chopped turnips (I use about 1 cup; you can use diced potatoes instead)
    salt & pepper to taste

    Recipe

Rinse & pick through peas; discard stones or discolored peas. Add all ingredients to 6 quart or larger
crockpot. Set to LOW and cook 8 to 10 hours until peas have turned to mush. Soup will be thick. Add
water and/or stock, if needed throughout cooking. Make as thick or as thin as you like (we like it almost
    like stew).
Can be served with cooked rice or elbow noodles, if desired.
