    Combine in large kettle:
    4 C sugar
    1 C cornstarch
    3 tsp. cnnamon
    1 tsp. nutmeg
    1 tsp. salt
    Add 10 cups water

    Recipe



    Cook until thickened and add 3 Tblsp. lemon juice.
    Fill clean, hot canning jars 1/3 full of sauce. Peel and slice apples into jars, squishing apples down into the sauce until the jar is full.
    Put on hot lids. Process in boiling water bath for 20 minutes. Fills about 7 quart jars.
    To make the pie--pour filling into unbaked crust, put on top crust, bake at 400 degrees for 40 to 50 minutes.
