    Country Style Vanilla Ice Cream

    Source of Recipe

    Frugal Friends for Life

    List of Ingredients

    1 qt. milk
    2 c. sugar
    1/4 cup flour
    1/2 tsp. salt
    4 eggs, slightly beaten
    1 tblsp. vanilla
1-1/2 qts. light cream, or dairy half and half

    Recipe

    1. Scald milk. Mix sugar, flour, and salt. Add enough hot milk to
sugar-flour mixture to make a thin paste. Stir paste into hot milk. Cook
over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens slightly, about
    15 minutes.
    2. Add hot mixture gradually to beaten eggs and cook over low heat, stirring
constantly, until mixture thickens slightly, about 2 minutes. Do Not cook
    longer or eggs may curdle.
    3. Cool quickly in refrigerator. Do Not allow mixture to cool at room
    temperature.
    4. Add vanilla and light cream to cooled mixture. Pour into freezer can;
fill only 2/3 full to allow for expansion. Freeze and ripen according to
directions on your freezer. Makes 1 gallon.

You can make it richer by using half and half for the milk. If you want it
to taste like dairy queens ice cream use goats milk if you can get it. I
know it sounds unappealing if you haven't had it before but goats milk
always made the best ice cream as far as my family was concerned.
