    4 whole scallions -- cut in pieces
    2 teaspoons ginger root -- grated
    2 tablespoons light soy sauce
    1 tablespoon rice vinegar
    1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
    2 teaspoons sesame oil
    1 1/2 teaspoons honey
    1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
    1 1/2 pounds sirloin steak, trimmed -- boneless

    Recipe



    Place all ingredients except meat in the bowl of a a food processor or blender. Process 1 minute to form a rough paste marinade.

    Put meat on a cutting board. Score steak with 1/2-inch deep cuts in a 1-inch criss-cross pattern on both sides of steak.

    Pound steak with a meat mallet or heavy pan to tenderize.

    Transfer meat to a shallow nonmetallic dish. Brush surfaces with marinade; pour remaining marinade over steak.

    Cover and refrigerato at least 2 hours, and up to 8 hours, turning occasionally.

    Prepare a hot charcoal fire or grill. Wipe off most of marinade. Grill steak until medium rare, about 4 minutes per side. Slice into thin strips and serve hot.
