    serves 4, meant to be cheap, I would be tempted to add veg eg carrot or celery or beans or mushrooms or leek or fennel or silverbeet ie suit yourself.


    List of Ingredients


    • 600g beef round steak, cut into strips
    • 140g tomato paste
    • flour to dust meat before brownong
    • 1 onion, roughly chopped
    • 1 can diced tomatoes (400g)
    • 1 tbs oil
    • 400g long grain rice
    • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
    • salt and pepper to taste
    • parsley


    Instructions


    1. Lightly toss beef strips in flour, seasoned with salt and pepper.
    2. Heat oil on medium heat and brown beef strips in a deep pan or casserole dish a few minutes until lightly browned.
    3. Remove from pan and set aside. Add onion and garlic to pan and soften. Return beef to pan and add tomatoes, tomato paste and one cup water.
    4. Simmer on very low heat (or place in moderate oven) for 2 hours.
    5. Serve with steamed rice or garnish with parsley.
