    Donair Meat

    Source of Recipe

    Glen Pepitas

    Recipe Introduction

For all you Halogonian's who can't find a good donair (i.e. you don't live in Nova Scotia anymore) here is your fix!

    List of Ingredients

    • 3 pounds of lean hamburger (tripple ground at least)
    • 3/4 cup of bread crumbs
    • 2 tsp of pepper
    • 1-2 tsp of cayenne red pepper
    • 1 1/2 tsp oregano
    • 3 tsp paprika
    • 2 tsp onion powder
    • 1 tsp salt
    • Toppings:
    • Raw onions
    • Diced Tomato
    • Donair Sauce

    Instructions

    1. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Knead for 20 minutes. Shape into 2 or 3 tightly formed loaves. Bake on a broiler pan (or a baking sheet to keep the fat in for flavor, mmm fat!) for 2 - 2 1/2 hours at 300 degrees F.
    2. If you plan to store the meat, freeze it while its a loaf. I usually freeze one of two loaves and eat one right away.

    3. Cut meat into thick slabs and place in a frying pan on medium heat.
    4. Brown the meat a little more, partially to warm it up if reheating. While to meat is in the frying pan, place a pita on top. This while allow some of the grease to flavor the pita, and make the pita soft.
    5. Place meat on pita, top with raw onions and tomato and as much donair sauce as you like.

    Final Comments

Its like crack. It really really is.
