    This recipe has been modified from the original.

    List of Ingredients




    1 cup all-purpose flour
    3/4 cup granulated sugar
    2 tbsp cocoa
    2 tsp baking powder
    1/4 tsp salt
    1/2 cup milk
    2 tbsp vegetable oil or melted margarine
    1 tsp vanilla
    1 cup chopped nuts, if desired
    1 cup packed brown sugar
    1/4 cup cocoa
    1 3/4 cups hottest tap water
    Ice Cream

    Recipe



    Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix flour, sugar, 2 tbsp cocoa, baking powder and salt. Mix in milk, oil and vanilla with fork until smooth. Stir in nuts. Spread in ungreased 9x9x2" square pan. Sprinkle with brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa. Pour hot water over batter.

    Bake 40 minutes. Serve warm topped with ice cream. Spoon sauce from pan onto each serving. 9 servings; 475 calories per serving.

    Butterscotch Sundae Cake: Substitue 1 pkg (6 oz) butterscotch chips for the nuts. Decrease brown sugar to 1/2 cups and the 1/4 cup cocoa to 2 tbsp.
