THE MAMA'S COOK BOOK - Mrs. Louise Spaulding

    List of Ingredients

    Scald and cool:
    1 cup milk
    1/8 pound butter
    4 tbsp. sugar

Add to above when cool the following:
    2 eggs well beaten
1 yeast cake dissolved in 1/4 cup warm water
    1 tsp. salt
    3 heaping cups flour

    For Pan:
    1 cup brown sugar
1/8 pound butter cut in small pieces

    For Paste:
    1/4 pound butter
    1-4 cups brown sugar
    1 tsp. cinnamon

    Recipe

Let rise until double in bulk - about 3 hours in winter time. For pan use: 1 cup brown sugar sprinkled on bottom, amount according to size of pan, you may need more as pan should be well covered. 1/8 pound butter - cut in small pieces on the brown sugar, more if needed.

For paste use 1/4 pound butter, 1-4 cups brown sugar, 1 tsp. cinnamon. Mix well to a paste, when dough is ready roll out on a board well covered with flour. Roll as long and wide as possible to make a thin sheet. Spread with paste and sprinkle with seedless raisins. Roll like jelly roll, cut in 1-inch pieces and place cut side in pan. Let rise to double in bulk, about 3 hours in winter. Bake in 400 degree F. oven about 20 to 25 minutes. Turn out on baking sheet or take out of pan with cake turner.

They are a sight behold and delicious. Mrs. Louise Spaulding.
