    1 pkg. yeast
    1 cup tepid water
    1/2 cup sugar
    1 egg
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 cup evaporated milk
    1/2 cup cold water
    3 tbs. shortening
    6 cups plain flour

    Recipe

Sift 3 cups flour in bowl, add salt, cut in shortening. Dissolve yeast in tepid water, add evaporated milk, cold water and sugar. Slightly beat and add to milk. Make firm batter with flour and yeast mixture. Beat until bubbly. Add enough flour to make a firm dough. Put in large greased bowl. Cover tightly and place in ice box for 24 hours. Roll out on board, cut into rolls. Let rise 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Keeps for several days.
